2016 Spear Vineyard Pinot Noir
Sta. Rita Hills
As soon as we heard that an all new, Certified Organic vineyard was being planted right in the heart of Sta. Rita Hills we couldn't wait to get our hands on some of the sure-to-be delicious fruit. We began working with Spear Vineyards in 2015 and are blown away each year, as the vineyard contiues to develop and mature.
Our 2016 'SBC' Pinot Noir was largely composed of Spear Vineyards fruit, but as is oft the case here, we couldn't help but fall in love with a few very special barrels. These barrels make up what is now the 2016 Spear Vineyards Pinot Noir.
Antonio Galloni - 91 points "The 2016 Pinot Noir Spear Vineyard is powerful, dense and structured. Dark red and blueish fruit, wild flowers and chalk are nicely pushed forward. This is a very promising wine from young vines and an estate that is just starting to build its track record." - Santa Barbara Dreamin' (Sept 2018)
Wine Advocate - 94 points "The 2016 Spear Vineyard Pinot Noir is lovely, wafting from the glass with aromas of cherries, dried herbs, beetroot and rose hip, with some whole cluster spice on the upper register. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, supple and textural with fine, velvety tannins, a nice core of ripe fruit, juicy acids and a long, tangy finish. This boasts excellent concentration despite its elegant format and really appeals for its complexity and grace." - The Wine Advocate, Issue 236
Jeb Dunnuck - 95 points "The 2016 Pinot Noir Spear Vineyard comes from a relatively young vineyard located on the northern side of the Sta. Rita Hills, not far from Melville and Babcock. It's slightly deeper colored and offers a more smoky, earthy, savory bouquet of red currants, ground herbs, earth, and graphite. These all flow to a rich, beautifully textured, elegant Pinot Noir that has terrific depth and density as well as length. It’s a brilliant Pinot Noir from this team to drink any time over the coming decade." - New Releases From Santa Barbara County (Oct 2018)
