2015 FOUR Chardonnay
Sta. Rita Hills
This years FOUR will not dissapoint. Another very small (10) barrel selection of wines that as they develop, inherently express more earth, more complex textures and just an overall - "FOUR-ness" as we've come to call it (you know what we're talking about if you've had it).
AGING: This wine saw a little over 15 months in barrel (25% new French / the remainder neutral oak) and while she's tasting amazing, she's in early adulthood to be sure. This wine is built to last!!
TASTING NOTES: Quince, Asian pear, river rock, fresh nutmeg and pasta water. Tingly on the front, with flavors of lemon cream, key limes and lemongrass. A lot of spiciness reminiscent of ginger snap cookies. Rich on the mouthfeel but leaves you salivating from the acidity. Finishes with subtle hints of marzipan and baked apple.
Jeb Dunnuck - 95 points "Easily my favorite of the lineup, the 2015 Chardonnay FOUR spent 18 months in 20% new French oak. It offers notes of lemon rind, toasted bread, honeysuckle and buttered citrus, medium to full-bodied richness, bright acidity and a clean, lengthy finish. It's a straight up class act and will keep for 10-15 years or more." - Santa Barbara County: The Classic 2014's and Variable 2015's (Aug 2017)
Wine Advocate - 93+ points "The 2015 Chardonnay Four leaps from the glass with vibrant grapefruit and green mango notes plus wafts of honeysuckle, lightly browned toast and marzipan. The medium-bodied palate displays a lovely, satiny texture with great energy and plenty of citrus fruit vivacity, finishing on a mineral note." - Lisa Perotti-Brown (Issue Date: Sep 29, 2017)
Antonio Galloni - 93 points "The 2015 Chardonnay Four is the richest and lushest of this lineup of three Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnays. Viscous and creamy, with tons of aromatic and flavor intensity, the 2015 has a lot to recommend it. The broad, ample style will appeal most to readers who enjoy bigger Chardonnays." - Santa Barbara: Better Than Ever (Sep 2017)
